Inclusive Theater Companies

ArtStream’s Theatre Companies and Cabarets are designed so that performers with IDDs can participate as actors, artists, singers, dancers, and most importantly collaborators, working with creative teams to create original musical theatre productions and musical cabarets. Theatre Company auditions take place in the fall with public performances in the spring. Cabarets audition, rehearse, and perform in two sessions: Fall and Spring.

New ArtStreamers must take an ArtStream class or workshop before being eligible to audition.

Classes and Workshops

ArtStream provides short-form classes and workshops that cover musical theatre, dancing, movement, improvisation, singing, and more while building friendships, and important life skills like collaboration and creative expression.. These classes typically run 6-8 weeks and culminate in an informal, in-class sharing.

Community Partner Classes

ArtStream offers a variety of community partnerships that range from bringing experts in clowning, stage combat, and more to our community to bringing our methodologies and teaching artists to other communities. The Spotlight Society

The Spotlight Society is our monthly virtual workshop with a rotating lineup of teaching artists. The workshop dives into a new art-related theme each session, and participants can register as drop-ins, instead of registering for an entire series. OUR CURRICULAR UMBRELLAS

Devised-theatre is a creative process that focuses on the performers’ own ideas, personalities, and imagination to create a new show. This approach allows the ensemble of performers to work in collaboration with each other and with creative leaders while celebrating individuality and supporting needs. We aim to:

Develop actors, dancers, and singers
Build meaningful friendships and artistic community
Lift the curtain on the talents and capabilities of artists and performers with IDD
Give performers a role to play and a chance to shine
Highlight creative collaboration and imagination

Theatre-play and activity help participants speak clearly, listen actively, and express themselves with confidence, whether asking a question, sharing a story, or advocating for themselves in the arts. We aim to:

Practice using voice and body to express ideas
Build confidence speaking to groups or meeting new people
Teach to share opinions and make creative choices
Strengthen listening and teamwork skills
Rehearse conversations for work, home, & community life

Dance, theatre, and music support creativity, connection, and self-expression. We aim to:

Explore movement and voice through creative exercises
Improve coordination, focus, and presence
Build self-expression through acting, singing, and dancing
Encourage confidence and joy through performance
Celebrate each person’s unique style and story

Performing Companies and Cabarets

It’s time to act, sing, dance, and rehearse for this season’s show!

These programs are for actors who have completed the prerequisite of taking a previous ArtStream class and completed the audition process. Performers should be comfortable in groups of up to 20 people, advocate for any self-care needs, follow directions, and demonstrate respectful, safe behavior at all times.
