Who participates in ArtStream programs?
Those who identify themselves as having a developmental or intellectual disability. ArtStream classes are for those aged 16+ and ArtStream Theatre Companies and Cabarets are for participants aged 18+.
What will I learn at ArtStream?
ArtStream participants report significant growth in performance and communication skills, making new friends, trying new things, and becoming comfortable working in a group setting. Our programs are designed to foster creativity, confidence, and collaboration.
Where is ArtStream located?
ArtStream offers programs at various locations throughout the Washington, D.C., Metro region.

Who teaches ArtStream classes and programs?
ArtStream’s Teaching Artists hold degrees in fields such as special education, fine arts, performing arts, drama therapy, acting, dance, and music. They receive on-the-job training from Lead Teachers and have an average tenure of nine years with ArtStream. All Teaching Artists are certified in CPR to ensure safety during classes.
I am new to ArtStream, how do I start?
The best place to start is by taking a class. This gives you an opportunity to learn about ArtStream and it gives us an opportunity to learn about you. Once you have taken at least eight weeks of ArtStream classes you are eligible to audition for ArtStream Theater Company or ArtStream Cabaret. Or if you prefer, you can continue taking classes.
I am new to ArtStream, can I perform with ArtStream performances?
To join an ArtStream Theatre Company or ArtStream Cabaret, participants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have completed at least eight weeks of ArtStream classes within the past two years.
- Have an available spot within the company (returning company members are given priority).
Eligible individuals can join the waitlist if no spots are available. Auditions for Theatre Companies take place in the fall. Cabarets hold auditions in the fall and winter.
Are scholarships available?
Yes! ArtStream offers limited tuition assistance for all activities.

Do you accept other forms of payment?
Yes, ArtStream services are eligible for LISS, Self-Directed Funds, Respite funding, and more. We can provide invoices for third-party payments upon request.
Note: It is the responsibility of the participant, their family, or caregivers to coordinate and ensure timely payment from third-party funding sources.

What is ArtStream’s policy on masking and COVID-19 vaccinations?
ArtStream treats COVID-19 like any other illness. If you feel unwell, we kindly ask you to stay home. Vaccinations are not required for participation. Masking is optional for participants, teachers, volunteers, and audiences.
