Disabilities
Kids Enjoy Exercise Now
ArtStream has partnered with Kids Enjoy Exercise Now from September 2007 thru June 2008 to teach once monthly music and movement classes to young adults with profound disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, mental retardation and other severe health problems. Taught by ArtStreamers Dan Villar and Emilia O’Connor.
Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC)
ArtStream is once again partnering with Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC), providing dance and poetry classes for adults with autism.
These powerful programs focus on increasing the communication abilities of adults with autism through movement, drama and poetry. The artists seek to establish comfortable environments in which to practice important relational skills such as eye contact, verbal and nonverbal skills, participation, communication and interaction. This unique course works well with nonverbal and verbal autistic adults. One autistic adult even said after performing a poem about snow, "I want to do the poem again." The several nonverbal adults have smiled, laughed and danced at the possibility to communicate through the arts.
The ARC of Montgomery County
ArtStream continues its partnership with the ARC of Montgomery County. In Fall 2007, it offered Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Dance and Drama classes for adults with disabilities for 6 weeks. The first 3 weeks focused on various forms of movement and dance. The second 3 weeks focused on innovative drama techniques. The classes were taught by ArtStream Co-Founder Patricia Krauss.

Shaare Torah Preschool
Winter 2008: This winter, we continue our work at Shaare Torah Preschool with a class in Creative Drama for preschoolers. Taught by Jennie Lutz, this fun and lively class uses creative expression and movement to engage the imagination and build confidence through self-expression, as well as using stories to explore structure and outcome, and have fun!
Fall 2007: ArtStream partnered again with Shaare Torah Preschool in Gaithersburg MD. We provided instructors to teach Creative Drama, Creative Movement/Dance, and Visual Arts every Wednesday and Thursday from October thru December 2007. Classes were taught by Marci Shegogue, Jennie Lutz, and Gretchen Kingan. We were excited to bring the performing arts to these 3 and 4 year olds.
return to topElementary & Middle Schools
Winter 2008: This winter, ArtStream is running three classes at two different elementary schools. The Creative Drama classes are being taught by Sally Kinka and Sarah Cosgrove. At Fields Road Elementary School and DuFief Elementary School, we explore the world of theatre and creative expression through theatre games and exercises, and the enactment of various, age-appropriate fairy and folk tales, as well as more modern children's books. We are learning and honing skills in facial, physical and vocal expression, stage craft, and creative improvisation!
Katherine Thomas School
New this season! ArtStream is now at the Katherine Thomas School in Rockville. Sally Kinka is teaching a Puppetry Class for Middle Schoolers there, with assistance by Kate Baasch. The students are enjoying making their own "latex head" hand puppets, as well as creating an original script for a puppet performance at the end of the school year. The class is quite enthusiastic, and the puppets are looking fantastic! We are very excited about this new relationship with the great people at Katherine Thomas!
DuFeif Elementary School
Fall 2007: ArtStream began a new partnership with DuFief Elementary School in Gaithersburg MD. Jennie Lutz taught drama to 1st and 2nd graders and Sally Kinka instructed 3rd thru 5th graders in drama techniques.

Knights of Glory
On May 1, 2008, ArtStream is proud to present, in conjunction with Hospice Caring of Montgomery County, a staged reading of an original musical play, written by Sally Kinka, with music by Daniel Villar. The staged reading of Knights of Glory is made possible by a generous grant from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, presented to Sally as an individual artist. The work was written as a healing allegory, which traces the journey that a young person goes though when dealing with challenges such as life-threatening illness or grief. The reading will be attended by invited guests in the Hospital and Hospice fields, who will then give feedback on it's content.
